Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited (PSCDCL) has initiated the development and implementation of various smart city initiatives in Pune. The initiatives are broadly classified under the following heads:
- Transport and Mobility
- ICT and IOT – Technological interventions
- Sanitation and waste
- Urban infrastructure
- Safety and security
- Water and sewage
- E-governance
- Education and health
“Urban renewal”- VKu in collaboration with McKinsey & Company team has been involved in strategic advising and program management of multiple urban planning and infrastructure projects. These projects are pivotal in upliftment of infrastructure at city level and have brought positive changes in the neighbourhood as well as a direct impact on the community.
The scope of services includes strategic advising and managing the complete program for infrastructure projects right from project initiation, design development, stake holder and citizen consultations, preparation of bid documents and bid process management to execution monitoring and appointment of operations & maintenance operator after successful completion of the project.
VKu has provided their expertise and worked comprehensively on the following PSCDCL initiatives:
- Multi-modal Transit hub:
The Multi- Modal Transit Hub project identified under Pune’s Smart City proposal for integrating and providing interchange between different public transport modes, and creating an iconic transit oriented development in Pune on Public-Private-Partnership. VKu has done the master planning and feasibility studies for the proposed mixed-use development project having built up area approximately 3 million square feet and catering more than 100 bus transit bays and Metro Station interchange.
2. Area based and Neighbourhood master planning:
The integrated planning was done for various smart city initiatives over an area of approximately 980 acres along with master planning of proposed neighbourhood development plan of approximately 300 acres for ensuring sustainable and planned development that ensures the allocation of essential and social infrastructure facilities.
3. Street re-design:
Under the smart city initiatives PSCDCL has taken up the transformation of streets to smart streets with a focus on features like universally accessible and pedestrian friendly streets. PSCDCL has taken up development and transformation of more than 25 kilometers of roads in ABD area and we have strategized and driven the urban design and program management of the road network with street elements, street furniture and beautification and art work across the whole network
4. Livability- Placemaking and open spaces
VKu has worked extensively with international experts and conceptualized and successfully implemented the European idea of ‘Placemaking’ for the first time in India which involved transformation of abused and abandoned land parcels into theme based public spaces. The project has been highly impactful and has won multiple awards at national and international stages. Further to completion of 2 pilot sites PSCDCL has taken up works for more than 25 Placemaking sites with a wide range of unique themes like a park for specially-abled, traffic education park, environment park as well as fitness arena’s and adventure parks. We have successfully managed the complete program for all these projects from conceptualization and design development phase to bid process management and execution monitoring to operation phase.
5. Social infrastructure
VKu has driven the development of various smart city social infrastructure initiatives like Fire-station, Disaster management center, smart clinics, smart schools, smart citizen facilitation centers and recreational facilities across the city. The projects like smart clinic that provide free primary healthcare facility to citizens have a direct impact on the community and neighbourhood and have positively changed the perspective of community about the public sector projects. The complete design development process and program has been successfully managed by us.
